“Are we there yet”?

cruising-california-in-1966-in-our-cool-salmon-pink-chevrolet_lDo you find waiting to truly be the hardest part? You know, like in the Tom Petty song:” The Waiting is the Hardest Part.” Well I suppose it depends. Waiting on an answer to prayer. Absolutely true, the waiting is the hardest part. Waiting for everyone to get on the same page about where to eat lunch, well not so much, just difficult to ignore the light headedness. When it comes to answered prayer however, there are three categories for me. 1. Instant gratification. Prayers sent up quickly and many times answered quickly. Hear the sigh of relief. 2. Prayer requests from others: better write it down or it may get forgotten as quickly as it was requested. And, 3. Long term prayers. The prayers that are written on our hearts. Prayers for change, healing and help. For ourselves and others. Praying and waiting are lines on the same continuum. The waiting makes the answer( or the lack thereof ) all the sweeter when we glimpse what God is up to. The answers do come, don’t despair. So go ahead, call out every 5 minutes from the back seat to Abba Father: “Are we there yet”? He knows the waiting can be the hardest part, yet it is sweet music to His ears to hear our voices coming from the back seat: “Are we there yet”? We may not be there yet, but He is. “We have courage in God’s presence, because we are sure that he hears us if we ask him for anything that is according to his will”. 1 John 5:14
